Pele and Messi memorabilia to be displayed in city

Items once owned by footballing greats are to go on display in an exhibition dedicated to the sport and its history in Wolverhampton.

They include boots worn by Pele and a Lionel Messi Argentina shirt - all featuring in Football: Designing the Beautiful Game showcase.

The exhibition features more than 200 items on loan from The National Football Museum in Manchester and the FIFA Museum in Zurich, as well as pieces from the Wolves Museum.

Football fans can see the exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 25 May.

The international touring exhibition was put together by the Design Museum in London.

It also includes a screening of a film about another of the game's legends – Zinédine Zidane.

Filmed by contemporary artists Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno, Zidane, a 21st Century Portrait, follows the French star in real time over the course of a single match in 2005.

The exhibition runs until 1 September.
