The family of a man who was killed in a motorway crash while protecting his wife have paid tribute to a "selfless and compassionate" husband and father.

David Lalgee, 64, died in hospital after a lorry ploughed through the central reservation on the M60, hitting the car he was driving on March 20.

In the statement, the family said Mr Lalgee, from Blackpool, protected his wife by putting himself in front of her as the lorry crossed the reservation.

"He took the full impact, sacrificing his life to save the woman he loved," his family said.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests have been made following the incident, which saw the lorry hit two vehicles before it crossed into the opposing carriageway and hit two more.

Mr Lalgee's family said he was a devoted father, loving stepfather and proud grandfather.

"He adored his family, and the way he loved his wife was something truly special, filling their home with warmth, kindness, and steadfast devotion," his family said.

His family added he "lived to serve others" and was formerly the owner of a care home in Blackpool and a pastor at Church Alive in the town.

"No words can truly capture the man David was.

"He was a protector, a carer as well as above all else, a pillar of love and support to so many.

"His selflessness and compassion touched so many lives, and while our time with him was far too short, we will forever cherish the moments and memories he gave us," his family added.
