Car park partially shut for footbridge demolition

Work to remove two footbridges linking a car park to a shopping centre is taking place as part of a wider town regeneration scheme.
The western section of Raven Meadows car Park, in Shrewsbury, will be closed from Monday until 06:00 BST on Thursday to allow the work to take place.
The bridges linked the multi-storey car park to the former Riverside Shopping Centre and former Pride Hill Shopping Centre.
The works are part of the first phase of Smithfield Riverside, Shropshire Council's mixed-use regeneration masterplan.
Once demolition completes, work will begin on the creation of a new public park adjacent to Roushill, said the council.
Whilst the western section of the car park is closed, visitors will be able to access the open section via Meadow Place and the remaining section of Raven Meadows will become two-way during the road closure period, the council added.
The Darwin shopping centre will remain open as normal during the works
Mark Barrow, Shropshire Council’s executive director of place, said: "As we move forward with Smithfield Riverside, the temporary closure of Raven Meadows is a necessary step towards crafting a vibrant future for this area of the town centre.
"We will be working closely with the contractor to minimise disruption to the public and local businesses as much as possible over the coming months.”
Raven Meadows is expected to fully reopen to traffic at 06:00 on Thursday.
