Second man charged after death of 'Good Samaritan'

A man has been charged with perverting the course of justice following the death of a "Good Samaritan" who had gone to the aid of a woman last Christmas.

Chris Marriott, 46, died after being hit by a car as he tended to the injured woman on College Close in the Burngreave area of the city on 27 December.

Officers said a vehicle collided with a group of people following reports of violence and disorder in the area.

Mohammed Jhangur, 56, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Friday, charged with perverting the course of justice, South Yorkshire Police said.

Mr Jhangur, of Whiteways Road in Sheffield, has been bailed to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on 19 April.

A 24-year-old man, Hassan Jhangur, has already been charged with the murder of Mr Marriott, as well as five counts of attempted murder.

He is due to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on 12 April.

Described as a Good Samaritan by police, Mr Marriott had been out for a post-Christmas walk with his wife and two young sons when the incident took place.
