Dog walkers have been warned of adders at a Cornish beauty spot.

Callington-based Calweton Veterinary Group posted a photograph on its Facebook page, external after one of its vets had seen the venomous snake at Kit Hill.

The post said: "Please be careful with your dogs, adders will act in self defence if disturbed and can cause nasty bites."

If a dog is bitten by an adder, its owner should call a vet immediately, the post added.

"Adders are now coming out of hibernation and are enjoying basking in the sun," it said.

The post added a dog owner should carry their pet if their animal is bitten as this would help prevent the venom spreading further in its body.

"You can bathe the wound in cold water. Keep your dog warm and as calm and still as possible, again this is to prevent the venom from spreading," it added.
