Police have been given a warrant to further question a man who was arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman.

Northamptonshire Police said it was called to a home in Pinewood Road, Northampton, by the East Midlands Ambulance Service at about 06:05 BST on Saturday, where a woman in her 40s was found dead.

The force launched a murder investigation on Tuesday with a 55-year-old man, from Northampton, subsequently being arrested on suspicion of murder.

At Northampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, officers were granted a warrant of further detention, and the man remained in custody.

The woman's next of kin have been informed, the force added.

A neighbourhood policing team was also conducting house-to-house inquiries and extra local patrols.
