A man who denied murdering another man during a street altercation will stand trial at the end of this year.

John McWhir, 52, died in hospital from a serious head injury after the incident in Hebden Bridge on 27 July.

Kyan McWhir, 31, of Vernon Place, Todmorden, cried as he pleaded not guilty to the charge at Bradford Crown Court on Friday.

West Yorkshire Police said they were called to an "ongoing fight" on Crown Street and found John McWhir unconscious at the scene.

The defendant was remanded in custody and shouts of "love you mate" came from supporters in the public gallery as he was taken away.

Kyan McWhir's trial has been scheduled for 9 December at the same court and is set to last six days.
