Landlords are being offered assistance from the government in signing up to the new licence scheme.

The Rented Dwelling Licensing Scheme legally requires landlords to hold a licence for each home they rent out in Jersey from 1 May 2024.

The Government said in April that it was created to "improve the standards of rental accommodation" in the island.

From 1 August 2024 it will be illegal for a landlord to rent without a licence from 1 August 2024 and inspections may need to take place before a licence is granted.

Government officers between June and July will be at different parish halls to provide support and answer questions.

Locations include:

  • St Peter Parish Hall - Monday 10 June, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • St Lawrence Parish Hall - Tuesday 11 June, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • St Helier Town Hall - Wednesday 12 June, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • St Clement Parish Hall - Friday 14 June, 14:00-16:00 BST

  • St Saviour Parish Hall - Monday 17 June, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • St Martin Public Hall - Wednesday 19 June, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • Trinity Parish Hall - Monday 24 June, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • Grouville Parish Hall - Monday 24 June, 14:00-16:00 BST

  • St John Parish Hall - Monday 1 July, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • St Mary Parish Hall - Wednesday 3 July, 10:00-12:00 BST

  • St Ouen Parish Hall - Thursday 4 July, 14:00-16:00 BST

A licence costs £60 per property and will be valid for two years.

Licences would be attached to the property itself - if the property is sold, the licence would transfer to the new owner.
