A fourth case of bird flu has been confirmed in Norfolk, hours after restrictions were imposed across four counties.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said H5N1 had been confirmed in captive birds at a premises near Cranworth, close to Watton.

A 3km (1.8-mile) captive monitoring controlled zone was put in place around the premises and the birds would be humanely culled, it added.

Earlier this month, three other cases were confirmed in mid Norfolk - two in Watton, and another 10 miles (16km) away in Dereham.

On Friday, Defra announced Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire and parts of Yorkshire had been made subject to an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ), to mitigate the risk of further outbreaks.

It is now a legal requirement for all bird keepers in the areas to "mitigate the risk of further outbreaks of the disease", it said.
