A five-year-old boy was seriously injured after a car veered off a road in Peterborough and hit a tree.

Police said the red Lexus 220D left the westbound carriage of the A47 Soke Parkway, just after junction 17 (Bretton Way/Gresley Way) at about 15:40 BST on Monday.

A 38-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, who were also in the car, had minor injuries.

The five-year-old was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge after initially being taken to Peterborough City Hospital.

Cambridgeshire Police said no other vehicles were involved.

"Anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage should use reference incident 291 of 20 October and report it through the force website, external," a spokesperson said.

"Anyone without internet access should call 101."
