A major search and rescue operation is under way in a seaside town.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Emergency services are currently at the river at Salcombe Road in Sidmouth, after members of the public reported concerns about an object seen in the water."

It said a "multi-agency search and rescue operation" was under way.

Officers urged people "not to attend the area while the operation is ongoing, as weather conditions are adverse".

Police said anyone with information should contact the force on 101 quoting log 236 of 23 November.
