A horse has been killed after being attacked by two dogs in a field in Batley.

Police said the horse and a Shetland Pony had been attacked by the animals near Low Lane in Upper Batley just after 16:20 GMT on Monday.

The injured horse had to be euthanised by a vet who attended the scene.

West Yorkshire Police said a 33-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of having animals dangerously out of control and the dogs had been seized and their breed was "being clinically assessed".

The force said the dogs had been secured by residents before officers arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson said enquiries were being carried out by neighbourhood police teams and appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
