Stadium abseil raises £17k for charity

More than 70 people took part in the event on Saturday

Thousands of pounds have been raised for charity during an abseil from the top of a stand in Molineux Stadium.

More than 70 people took part in the event on Saturday including Wolves' former striker John Richards who said he wanted to enjoy a unique view of the stadium.

The 25m (82ft) abseil raised £17,000 for the Wolves Foundation which helps develop communities and encourage more active lifestyles.

Mr Richards, 73, said that although he was not the best with heights he loved seeing how many people had been encouraged to take part in the challenge.

“The community has and always will be a huge part of Wolves," Mr Richards said.

"It's that relationship between the club, the players and the community, and the Foundation plays the biggest role in that in my opinion," he added.

The Wolves Foundation thanked the abseilers for their amazing work which led to a "real sense of achievement".
