A man has been arrested twice in one week on suspicion of drink driving, North Yorkshire Police said.
Officers pulled the driver over on the A1 at Scotch Corner, near Richmond, earlier this week and found several empty alcohol containers in the passenger seat and footwell.
After taking the man into custody it was discovered he had been arrested just days earlier in Camden, London for the same offence.
The man is set to appear in court for both offences, after being charged by North Yorkshire Police and the Metropolitan Police.
During the same operation, A driver who was transporting medicines to a hospital for cancer patients tested positive for cannabis and cocaine.
He was arrested and charged, while police made sure the medicines were delivered to the hospital within the required time.
'Life and death'
North Yorkshire Police said four other drivers had been arrested in York on on suspicion of drug and drink driving offence on Wednesday, including a taxi driver who had collided with a cyclist on Monkgate.
A force spokesperson said: "These cases demonstrate that no matter where you are in the country, and no matter what your purpose is for being on the roads, police forces are working tirelessly to tackle drink and drug driving this Christmas and take dangerous drivers off the roads.
"Drink and drug driving is never acceptable. It puts lives at risk—not only the driver's but also those of innocent road users."
Officers across the county would be stepping up patrols and carrying out roadside tests, according to the force.
They added consequences would be severe and would include fines, a driving ban or imprisonment.
"Most importantly, the decision could mean the difference between life and death," the spokesperson added.
