Nominations have opened for a community champion to help switch on a town's Christmas lights next month.

Kettering Town Council has launched this year's Hunt for a Hero initiative, which invites residents to nominate people who have made an exceptional contribution over the past year.

The chosen nominee will join the mayor of Kettering on stage to switch on the Christmas lights at a public event on 27 November.

The Mayor of Kettering Ben Jameson said: "I am really looking forward to reading all the nominations and know it's not going to be an easy job to choose the winner."

Last year, the honour went to Denise Mackay, founder of Johnny's Happy Place, while in 2023, the role was shared by Kelly Mercer and six-year-old Sebastian Nunney, whose family now runs The Seb Factor talent competition in his memory.

Mr Jameson added: "There are lots of unsung heroes out there working hard, day in, day out for this town."

Entries can be submitted via the Kettering Town Council website until midnight on Sunday 26 October.
