Belated birthday party for Cinnamon the capybara
- Published
A capybara who rose to fame after escaping from her enclosure to go on the run for a week has belatedly celebrated her first birthday.
Hundreds of visitors went to Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World in Telford on Saturday to see Cinnamon and her brother Churro celebrate them both turning one with a pumpkin birthday cake.
She gained notoriety when "keeper error" enabled her to flee through an open gate after being startled by a mower at the zoo on 13 September.
Cinnamon, who turned one while on the run, retreated to nearby woodland before being found in a pond after intensive searches.
Will Dorrell, joint owner of the park, said Cinnamon and Churro both enjoyed their belated birthday party.
"She certainly seemed to enjoy herself," he said.
"The whole day was a hit with over 500 visitors - about double what we'd usually have at this time of year - coming to celebrate with her."
Her adventure inspired memes, merchandise, and a song and Mr Dorrell said the "Cinnamon merchandise is flying off the shelves".
