A man has been seriously injured after crashing a scrambler bike following a police chase on Christmas Day.

The crash happened at about 11:40 GMT in Stockbridge Village, Knowsley, Merseyside Police said.

The force said the bike had failed to stop for a marked police car and had been pursued prior to the collision on Waterpark Drive, near to St Brigid's Catholic Primary School.

No other vehicles were involved and the rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, Merseyside Police said.
