A timeframe for the removal of controversial “wiggly" road markings in a seaside town has been made public.

Work to erase the lines in Clevedon, North Somerset, will start in February, and be completed by summer 2025.

The RAC previously described the lines as one of the “most bizarre” road schemes it had seen.

The change is part of a £425,000 reversal of an unpopular scheme introduced in 2022, which also saw a one-way system and cycle lane introduced.

A set of double-yellow lines were added to the scheme earlier this year

The reversal will also see new loading bays and a coach drop-off point installed, and access to the promenade for boats and ice cream vans, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Hannah Young, North Somerset Council’s executive member with responsibility for highways and local councillor for Clevedon South, said: “We have listened to the community and the consultants".

She added: "I’ve already had good feedback that the new plans will address the problems that residents and visitors have experienced in this area, and I hope the changes will make the area easier to navigate for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and disabled users.”

Residents are invited to a drop-in event to learn more about the changes at Clevedon Community Centre in Princes Road between 11:00 BST and 20:00 BST on 9 September.

The new plans will be displayed and North Somerset Council officers will be available to discuss the scheme.
