There were fears One Stop in Prudhoe had become structurally unsafe

A shop had to close for 10 days after being hit by a council gritter.

Northumberland County Council said one of its gritters had reversed into the back of the One Stop building in Prudhoe on 5 January in what it described as a "low-speed" crash.

The shop, on Front Street, was closed due to concerns over its structural stability and reopened on Wednesday after repairs.

A council spokesman said: "While no-one was injured and the vehicle is undamaged, we are currently investigating the circumstances and working with our insurance team to sort the matter out."

The authority said its gritters had been in "constant use" due to the cold spell with widespread ice and snow, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

A spokesman for One Stop confirmed nobody was injured in the crash.
