Users of a town's market place are being warned of disruption in the latest phase of upgrade works.

A major facelift for Shirebrook, Derbyshire, called REimagined, has been ongoing since last summer.

The final phase will see an events hub built, along with wider reorganisation of the area for traders.

From April to September, the market place will cordoned off but Bolsover District Council said it was looking to temporarily close off some surrounding streets to allow markets to continue.

The council said it expected the new market place to attract more visitors and events

During February and March, a series of preparatory works, including adjustments to the electricity supply and the felling of trees, will take place in and around Market Place.

The main work will, along with the events hub, feature new lighting, new trees and biodiversity features, new street furniture and bollards around the edge of Market Place and new cycle stands as well as the completion of the resurfacing of the area.

Council leader Jane Yates said "We acknowledge that the improvement works will cause disruption while they are taking place and that to a large degree this cannot be helped.

"But we are working with Shirebrook Town Council to minimise the disruption and support the market traders and local businesses during the works.

"Overall, this positive investment will allow us and Shirebrook Town Council to bring more events to the town centre to increase the number of visitors and to promote local shopping, which will in turn see our local businesses benefit and strengthen the local community."

During this period alternative public toilets will be put in place, the council added.
