Twenty-two colourful statues which formed part of an art trail through York have been sold at auction for more £27,000.

The Snook sculptures were sold off at an event at the city's Barbican venue in support of St Leonard’s Hospice and the York Creates Fund.

One statue, called 'All Creatures Great and Small' and designed by Amy Husband, sold for £3,000 on the night, while nine-year-old schoolgirl Annie O'Shaughnessy, from Holgate, was successful in with her bid after saving up her pocket money.

Sarah Loftus, manager director of Make It York, said she was "thrilled" by the support for the event.

Make it York, which ran the trail, announced the result of the 9 May auction on Friday.

Ms Loftus said: "The success of this event radiated positivity and showed the collective power in highlighting the work of such worthy causes."

James Wainwright, head of fundraising at St Leonard’s Hospice, said: “We’ve loved being involved and are grateful that local people of all ages, as well as others from across the country and indeed the globe, supported the trail and generously contributed to the auction."
