A main road has been closed after a serious multi-vehicle crash which has left one person with serious injuries and another with minor injuries.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to the A30 at Launceston at about 07:30 GMT following reports of a collision on the eastbound carriageway.

Officers said a lorry and a number of vehicles had collided and two people had been injured. They added the road was expected to be closed for "some time".

Supt Si Jenkins said due to Storm Bert "we are receiving a significant number of road-related incidents this morning including collisions and fallen trees".

"Our officers are responding to these reports but I would encourage people to consider whether their journey is necessary," he said.

"If you need to travel, please ensure you do so with care. If your journey is not necessary, please consider not travelling at this time."
