A runaway horse was lassoed by a police officer during a "hoof-stopping moment on duty".

It was seen galloping across Prickwillow Road in Ely, Cambridgeshire, just before 06:00 BST on Saturday.

Police said the officer "demonstrated his quick-thinking and roping skills" to "ensure the safety of road users".

The horse was returned to its owner uninjured.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: "Kudos to the officer for going above and beyond the mane call of duty to ensure the safety of road users and, of course, the horse itself."
