Police increased patrols in Knowsley after a boy was stabbed and a 19-year-old man was shot on the same day

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed on Friday.

The arrest came after police increased patrols in Knowsley following the stabbing and a separate shooting in the borough on the same day.

The 17-year-old suspect, from Liverpool, has since been granted conditional bail.

The boy was stabbed in Woodfarm Hey, Stockbridge Village, at 15:45 GMT while a 19-year-old man was shot in Manley Road, Huyton, at 20:50 GMT. Both victims remain in hospital in serious but stable conditions.

Merseyside Police introduced two Section 60 orders over the weekend, giving officers additional powers to search people suspected of involvement in crime, and increased patrols.

The force said since Friday 123 stop searches were conducted in Knowsley.

'Taking action'

Among those searched was a 24-year-old Huyton man arrested after two lock-knives were found in a vehicle on Tarbock Road.

Another man who was stop checked was found to be wanted in connection to burglaries in Waterloo, Sefton.

Luke O'Shaughnessy, 42, of Greenfield Walk in Huyton, was later charged with four counts of burglary.

Another suspect was stopped and searched in Huyton on Sunday and a knife was recovered.

Supt Karl Baldwin said: "Section 60 orders are just one of the measures we can take to disrupt those who are willing to use firearms and knives in our community.

"Such action isn't about bothering anyone going about their daily business or preventing people from meeting with friends.

"It's simply about taking action to reduce violence, take weapons off the streets and keep everyone safe."
