Motorway shut after lorry carrying hay catches fire

A stretch of the westbound M4 is closed after a lorry carrying bales of hay caught fire.

The carriageway is shut between junction 18 for Tormarton and junction 19 for Bristol as fire crews tackle the blaze.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported the incident to National Highways shortly before 16.00 BST.

A 14-mile (22.5km) diversion via the A420, A4174 and M32 is in place, with motorists asked to leave extra time for their journeys.

Drivers have also been asked to "remain in situ" until instructed by police or a National Highways traffic officer.
