Murder inquiry under way after man, 63, found dead

A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was found dead in a house.

Suffolk Police was called to an address in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, shortly before 18:00 GMT on Wednesday.

It has named the victim as 63-year-old William McNicholl, known as Billy, who was from the town.

The preliminary results of a Home Office post-mortem examination on Saturday indicated he died from multiple injuries.

A police presence remains in place at the premises in Hawthorn Drive, near to the junction with Marigold Avenue.

Detectives want to hear from anybody with information about the case or who saw any suspicious activity near the property between Tuesday, 24 December and Wednesday, 1 January.

A formal inquest has yet to take place.
