Plans lodged for 193 homes on old school site

Nearly 200 homes could be built on the site of a former school that closed more than 10 years ago.
A planning application lodged with Stoke-on-Trent City Council proposes to build a 193-home estate on the site of Edensor High School in Longton.
The land has been vacant since the buildings were bulldozed after the school closed in 2013 when it merged with Mitchell High School to form the Discovery Academy, which is now based in Bentilee.
Applicant Lovell Partnerships said it would be an “attractive, locally distinctive scheme” which would bring the site back into use.
The proposed development would also include green spaces, children’s play areas and 372 parking spaces, Lovell added.
Councillor Chris Robinson, who represents Longton on Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said he was glad to see the development “coming to fruition”.
“These are homes that we really need, especially in this part of the city, and it will include affordable homes as well,” he said.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is due to make a decision on the planning application by 14 November.
