Lifeguards may suggest that bathing is not possible at some beaches

The RNLI has warned people visiting beaches over the Bank Holiday weekend that there could be "dangerous" and "hazardous" sea conditions.

Guy Addington, Regional Water Safety Lead for the RNLI, said the wind direction and strength hitting Dorset beaches was likely to make the sea unpredictable.

He advised swimmers to stick to lifeguard patrolled beaches, follow their advice and swim between the red and yellow flags.

In some areas, lifeguards may suggest that bathing is not possible, he added.

"We just want to make sure that people visit the coast safely," Mr Addington said.

He added that the weekend would see higher than usual tides, which could lead to people getting stranded.

The warning comes after Mudeford RNLI's volunteer crew made 10 rescues on 16 August, assisting people who had got into difficulty in choppy water.
