Local residents have said they are worried about a proposal for 122 new homes which they say could "cause havoc".

Dozens of people are opposing the plans from Aster Homes Ltd, which wants to develop The Folly, north of Swindon Road, in Cheltenham - a site previously used by the University of Gloucestershire.

One resident said: “Public access is already very difficult and very congested. Parking is also at a premium on all the surrounding streets and roads."

The proposal includes a mix of housing and people have until 10 September to comment on the plans which will be considered by Cheltenham Borough Council.

The site is owned by the university, which previously used the greenfield site for British Universities and Colleges Sport fixtures.

The plans include one bed maisonettes to four bed houses, with the development being affordable led through a mixture of shared ownership and homes for rent.

But people have said the area already is already struggling with problems.

“The amount of houses planned will also create more noise pollution and havoc in such a concentrated area," one resident said.

“We feel that this not only poses a hazard to other motorists but also to pedestrians and pupils as there is a primary school so close to the proposed development site and the animal shelter parking and access."

“This is such a major concern.”
