A man who took part in an attempted robbery in which the victim was stabbed in the hand has been jailed for four years.

Kristen Mennel, 19, Ali Thomas King, 18, and another teenager had met the victim in Scarborough town centre, where King brandished a 12-inch (30cm) knife and demanded money.

After the 19-year-old man tried to escape and run home, he was chased by the group and attacked.

Mennel, 19, of Scarborough, had pleaded guilty to one count of attempted robbery at an earlier hearing.

York Crown Court heard King, Mennel and the 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named, had arranged to meet the victim.

When King demanded money, the victim fled but was attacked when he reached his home.

He was punched several times and King slashed the man's hand with a flicking motion, causing a significant wound which later required reconstructive surgery due to nerve damage.

King and Mennel were located a short time after the incident and arrested at an address together. The other teenager was also arrested later at another address.

King, of Scalby Gate, Falsgrave Road, was sentenced to three years in a young offender institution at York Crown Court in July, after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery.

The third teenager also pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and received a youth referral order.

He was also ordered to do 60 hours of unpaid work and will be subject to electronic monitoring for three months.

The court heard the victim had not fully recovered from the attack and his hand remained impaired due to nerve damage.

Sentencing Mennel, Judge Simon Hickey said the sentence reflected the fact that Mennel, unlike King, was an adult at the time of the offence.
