An event to honour the work of the armed forces is taking place in Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday, with displays of army vehicles and from veterans groups.

The Armed Forces Day Parade in the Park, taking place at Longton’s Queen’s Park, is being compered by BBC Radio Stoke’s Tim Wedgwood.

The event is free of charge to attend, and will include music by Penkhull Brass Band as well as a sing along and a service led by the Reverend Geoff Eze.

“It is so important we continue to recognise the extraordinary and vital work of our armed forces communities,” a spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent City Council said.

They thanked the North Staffs Armed Forces Celebration Committee and Queen’s Park Partnership for planning the event.

A parade at 14:00 BST will be led by C Company, Corps of Drums from Staffordshire & West Midlands (North Sector) Army Cadets.

Members of the armed forces, veteran associations, cadets or schools who want to join in the parade are asked to form up at 13:45 at the park’s top gates.

The full event runs from 13:00 until 16:30.
