Students from a college have collected gifts and written letters for those who will receive Christmas hampers.

They will be given to customers of Wolverhampton City Council's meals on wheels service, which sees hot meals delivered to people who sign up for the scheme.

The project is offering a Christmas menu, which includes a mince pie and a cracker, as well as the hampers.

"Kindness is one of our core values as a school and our staff and students work hard to demonstrate it daily, especially during the Christmas season," said Laura Passmore, from Thomas Telford University Technical College.

"Students and staff enjoy contributing to this meaningful initiative each year and we hope the personal letters will help bring people closer together."

Meals on wheels has been running for more than 30 years and is delivered by the council's catering team.

The meals are cooked on the way to homes in specially designed vehicles and the scheme is open to the public without the need of an assessment.

"We are thrilled that we'll also be able to deliver these wonderful Christmas hampers," said councillor Paula Brookfield.

"On behalf of the team and the council, I would like to express our gratitude to the staff and students at Thomas Telford UTC for their continued support in donations once again this year."
