Part of a busy Lake District road has been closed to allow repairs go ahead.

Resurfacing works on the A591 have started at Chapel, near Bassenthwaite, with the road closed from Trafford's Caravan Site through to St John's Church until 2 December.

Cumberland Council said the next phase of the project starts near Millbeck on 3 December through to 12 December.

The council said the route to Keswick would be affected but signed diversions have been put in place. There will be no vehicle access during the closures from 07:30 to 19:00 GMT.

A spokesperson said emergency services, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists would have access at all times.

Access for residents would be restricted during working hours but the council said traffic marshals would be available to help.
