Developers have said their plan for a town centre redevelopment, including a 15-storey tower, is the final proposal for the site they will put forward.

Plans for what would be the tallest building in Redhill would act as "the landmark gateway to the centre", according to developer Solum.

An application for the redevelopment around the railway station was first submitted in May 2023, including two tower blocks of flats and commercial buildings.

Residents have until Thursday to comment on the latest submission, which reduces the main tower block from 19 to 15 storeys.

A covering letter from the applicant said: “If the proposed development is not approved, there will not be an alternative scheme brought forward [and we] will therefore not be able to contribute to the identified housing need in Reigate and Banstead.”

Solum said the site "must be the location of the tallest building in Redhill, acting as the landmark gateway to the centre".

The height of the building would "establish a distinct sense of place and arrival, contributing to the overall identity of Redhill”, it added.

In total, the latest proposal offers 255 new houses instead of the original 280, with no affordable housing included, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The developer argued the site would bring other public benefits through the regeneration of the station and the addition of commercial space.

Solum is a partnership between Network Rail and Kier Property, previously responsible for developments at Epsom and Twickenham stations.

It was granted planning permission in 2013 to redevelop Redhill station, improve the concourse, develop flats, add a platform, and provide a supermarket.

However, the supermarket plan was scrapped last year.
