Plans for 33-storey city tower block approved

Developers claim their plans will set the standard for tall buildings in Birmingham (artist's impression)

Plans for a 33-storey city centre building have been approved by Birmingham City Council.

Called The Hundred, the block on Broad Street had "taken inspiration from Birmingham's concrete heritage," developers said.

In 2019, plans for a 61-storey residential building on the site were approved, but that scheme was not deliverable, said Urban Vision.

This build-to-rent development would create 294 homes, as well as space for shops and cafes at street level, they added.

Described as "one of the most sustainable developments in Birmingham," the finished building is expected to create more than fifty jobs.

"We want to deliver a development that will set the standard for tall buildings in Birmingham, but also draw on the city’s heritage," said Mark Owen of Urban Vision.

100 Broad Street was an "under-utilised brownfield site," he said, and the block would support the wider regeneration of the area.

Construction would begin "as soon as practically possible," he added.
