A company has confirmed it will create 50 jobs in Wolverhampton after being given the go-ahead to build a new £30m factory at its premises.

Task Consumer Products on Stafford Road makes kitchen and toilet rolls.

It turns out more than 100,000 tonnes of household paper products every year.

The firm has now announced it will hire 50 new staff members, increasing its workforce to 178 full-time employees.

Established in 2007, Task Consumer Products is now listed in the top 100 fastest growing private companies in the UK.

Local councillor Simon Bennett, who spoke in favour of the application, said: “It is an enormous vote of confidence in our city that they have chosen to expand operations at their site – creating dozens of jobs in the process.

“This means more jobs for residents in the Bushbury North ward, and more opportunities for the near-8,000 people who are unemployed in our city.”

Task director Nikul Patel added: “This significant milestone marks a pivotal moment in our company’s growth and expansion plans.

Nature loss

The expansion will see the addition of electric vehicle charging points, extra renewable energy production, and a link bridge between the new and existing buildings.

During the application hearing, planners were told that the development would mean the loss of part of a Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation.

However, the firm has agreed a £200,000 compensatory payment to be spent on improvements to Pendeford Mill Nature Reserve and Northycote Farm.

Jo Russell from planning firm Stoford Properties Ltd said: “Through our proposals we will look to improve areas on the site through bird and bat boxes, pollinator posts, log piles and so forth."
