A police officer filmed himself having sex with a woman at a work Christmas party, then shared it with colleagues, a misconduct hearing has been told.

PC Daryl Watson, who has since resigned, was at an event at the NEC near Solihull in December 2022.

The 29-year-old, who had been with West Midlands Police for six years, was found to have committed gross misconduct following a hearing on Wednesday.

Chief Constable Craig Guildford said the former officer’s conduct seriously undermined public trust in the police.

He said there was "no place in policing for those who choose to conduct themselves in such a manner".

At the misconduct hearing held at the force headquarters in Birmingham, the chief constable said the former officer was not on duty at the time, but described it as a “work related event”.

The National Exhibition Centre was open to the public at the time.

The hearing was told that then PC Watson went into the toilet with the woman, who cannot be named, and videoed them having sex.

He then sent the film to another officer and played the video to colleagues at the Christmas party.

West Midlands Police launched an investigation into what happened, but Mr Watson has not faced any criminal charges, and did not appear at the hearing.

The chief constable said he would have been dismissed if he had not resigned.
