New murals marking the 200th anniversary of the modern railway have been unveiled.

The artworks, which depict historic figures including Queen Victoria, were installed near platform three and four of Leamington Spa Station.

They were created by local artist Katie O'Sullivan, in collaboration with pupils from Earlsdon Primary and Westgate Primary schools.

Chiltern Railways said the work captured the historic bicentenary of modern rail, which began with the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway on 27 September 1825.

Daniel Gillard, the firm's area manager, said Railway 200 was a "unique opportunity" to celebrate the history of rail.

"I am delighted that customers at Leamington Spa can view these wonderful murals which perfectly capture this historic milestone for Britain's railways," he said.

The project was funded by Chiltern Railways' Community Investment Fund, which supports local projects across the firm's railway network.

Its initiatives are designed to enhance station environments, promote sustainable travel and strengthen community connections.

"The children's ideas and creativity inspired these beautiful murals," added Ms O'Sullivan.

"It's been wonderful to translate their vision into large-scale artworks that celebrate Leamington's railway both past and present."
