A woman has appeared in court charged with manslaughter following the death of a care home resident.

Jane Barnard, 65, appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, accused of killing and neglecting Derek Davies, 75, who died on 8 September 2021.

Gloucestershire Police previously confirmed Ms Barnard was working as a care worker at Wheatridge Court in Abbeydale, Gloucester, where Mr Davies was a resident at the time.

District Judge Lynne Matthews sent the case to Gloucester Crown Court, where Ms Barnard is due to appear on 17 October.

Charges allege that Ms Barnard of Longlevens, Gloucester, ill-treated or neglected Mr Davies between 5 and 9 September 2021.

A court spokesperson confirmed Ms Barnard did not enter a plea to the two charges against her, and spoke to confirm her details during the hearing.
