A councillor has announced he will resign because day time council meetings are "making it impossible for many working people like myself to attend".

Mike Isherwood was elected to represent the Oswestry West ward in May 2021, but last summer he started a new job as a secondary school teacher.

The Green Party member said he had hoped to continue until the local authority elections in May, but had instead decided to stand down on 17 January.

Mr Isherwood, the current mayor of Oswestry, said he intended to continue as a town councillor.

Olly Rose, another Green Party representative on the town council, has said she will stand for Mr Isherwood's seat on Shropshire Council in May.
