A man has been charged after a person ran at police while wielding a machete in Garvagh, County Londonderry.

Officers were deployed following reports of a man with the weapon in Bridge Street at 19:00 BST on Sunday.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public, police said.

He is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

He remains in police custody on Monday morning.
