A swimming pool that has been shut for six months will reopen after repair work was completed.

Kingfisher Leisure Centre's pool in Sudbury, Suffolk, closed after a glass roof panel was damaged and the reopening was pushed back when more damage was found.

Babergh District Council, which owns the venue, said additional structural work had been completed, including replacement tiling.

However, the local authority said the pool's wave machine would remain closed for the foreseeable future.

External maintenance work will continue, but the authority does not expect this to impact the opening schedule.

Laura Smith, the council's cabinet member for thriving communities, said: "Our teams have worked hard to get the pool open again as soon as we could, and I'm delighted this will happen for half term."

Casual swimmers can return on Saturday and a full programme of lessons will resume from Monday.

A council spokesperson added: "We may be able to look at whether the wave machine can be reintroduced at some point in the future, but it will require significant work that simply isn't viable in the foreseeable."

The Kingfisher Leisure Centre is operated by Abbeycroft, which apologised for the inconvenience caused.
