Uttoxeter Leisure Centre will benefit from £339,525 of funding from Sport England

Solar panels are being installed on the roof of a leisure centre in Uttoxeter.

The project was launched following a similar plan at the nearby Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton.

East Staffordshire Borough Council has received £339,525 from Sport England's Swimming Pool Support Fund (SPSF) for the latest project.

The earlier plan saw 600 solar panels installed using a separate £510,000 grant from the body.

The council said the new solar panels would help its commitment to achieving net zero targets and becoming a carbon neutral borough.

Work on the Uttoxeter Leisure Centre project is due to start this month, lasting until September.

Paul Walker, cabinet member for tourism and cultural development, said: "The council continues to work towards its goal of making the borough carbon neutral by 2050.

"The installation of solar panels at both Meadowside and Uttoxeter Leisure Centres is a great step towards this goal."
