A motorcyclist in his 20s has died following a crash on a major road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene on the A303 near Horton, Somerset, by emergency services at approximately 19:00 BST on Saturday.

The other driver involved, travelling in a silver Ford Fiesta, remained at the scene and helped police with their enquiries.

The road was closed by police for several hours to allow investigation work to be carried out.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said the busy route had been reopened overnight, adding: "We are grateful for road users’ patience and understanding while emergency crews responded."

The spokesperson said the motorcyclist's family had been notified and would be given support by a specially-trained officer.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing, with police urging any witnesses or drivers who may have dashcam footage showing the vehicles prior to the crash to come forward.
