A motorist whose car was hit by a rock thrown from a bridge has warned "there's a difference between having fun and killing someone".

Sławosz was travelling from Camberley, Surrey, to Fareham, Hampshire, at about 17:20 BST on 24 July when his car was struck as he drove under the bridge over the A3 in Petersfield.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was aware of "several reports" of young people throwing rocks at cars from bridges in the area.

Sławosz's windscreen was cracked has cost him more than £800 to repair.

He said he did not think the teenagers involved meant to seriously harm anyone but believed "that kind of 'entertainment' could kill someone".

Petersfield resident Dan French's son Jake, who's in his 20s, suffered a similar experience when travelling back from work on the same day.

"The fright my son was put through plus the danger of having to stop on a live carriageway is unacceptable," said Mr French.

'Community is concerned'

He added: "As a parent, I would urge others to take an interest in what their children are doing and discourage this kind of behaviour. The potential consequences don't bear thinking about."

He said his son was "out of pocket" while he waited for the car he needed for work to be repaired.

Chf Insp Alex Charge, district commander for east Hants and Havant, appealed for anyone with information about incidents like this to contact police.

He said: "Fortunately, no-one has been injured, but vehicles have been damaged, and the community is rightly concerned about this."

He encouraged parents to speak to their children about the dangers of this type of behaviour and said officers would be paying particular attention to this area while on patrol.
