A person was found unresponsive and clinging to the boarding ladder of a boat.

They were rescued by Barrow RNLI from the Walney Channel, near the Furness peninsula in Cumbria, at about 12:00 GMT on Monday, after reports of person shouting for help.

The person was "unresponsive and clearly suffering the effects of having been in the water for some time", rescuers said.

They were given oxygen in the lifeboat and later received medical help from the North West Ambulance Service.

Cumbria Police was also in attendance, and the HM Coastguard Rescue helicopter checked a section of the channel to make sure nobody else was in the water.
