Hereford FC fans have launched a fundraiser for a 16 metre banner which will read "Red Card To Racism - Racists Not Welcome Here".

Players left the pitch at Sporting Khalsa's ground, Guardian Warehousing Arena in Willenhall, after about 67 minutes of play between the home team and Hereford FC on Saturday after goalkeeper Ravan Constable was verbally abused.

Assistant manager of Sporting Khalsa Jemiah Richards said it was the second time this season Ravan had experienced racism, but he regrettably "let it slide" the first time.

"Until something's done where there's going to be real punishments at clubs and people are going to get some severe punishments, I don't think it's going to change," Mr Richards said.

"Not to sound like a cynic but I think [what happened] is a reflection of where we are at as society.

"There's some very strong points that people are making at these marches and I think it's allowing people to come [to football matches] and say what they want and do what they want," he added.

The fundraiser has so far made £1,872 and, alongside the banner which will be displayed at the next home game, fans also want to buy 2,500 pieces of red card to be held up by everyone in the ground prior to kick off.

Any additional funds raised will be donated to a charity or project of Sporting Khalsa goalkeeper Constable's choice.

Chair of the Hereford Supporters Trust, Richard Tomkins said the fundraiser was a true reflection of the fans.

"Fans have empowered themselves to to really push back.

"We're a society of inclusion and diversity, and we're trying to ensure that continues in football," Mr Tomkins said.

In a statement the FA said is was very concerned about the allegation of discrimination during the match.

"Incidents of this nature will not be tolerated in our game, and we will work with the match officials, the clubs and the relevant authorities to establish the facts and ensure the appropriate action is taken."

Hereford FC said it had identified two individuals who would be banned from its Edgar Street home ground while investigations took place.
