Police have confirmed that two separate assaults in a Surrey town are linked.
Officers were called to an assault in Bridge Street, Walton-on-Thames, just after 22:00 BST on Thursday where a man was found with serious injuries.
While responding, they were called to a second assault in Church Walk where another man was found with injuries.
Surrey Police said a 19-year-old man from Walton-on-Thames and a 26-year-old man from Sutton were arrested in connection with the assaults, and both of the injured men were now recovering.
Borough commander Insp Chris Thoday said: "We had a significant number of officers in the area last night, including armed units and the police helicopter, which I understand will have caused concern within our community.
"There will be a continued police presence today while we carry out our investigation."
