Fire crews tackle scrapyard blaze near retail park

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a scrapyard near Manchester.

A number of vehicles caught fire at the property in Craven Road, Altrincham at about 12:00 GMT on Saturday.

Footage from Altrincham Today, external shows large plumes of smoke rising above the area near Altrincham Retail Park as crews from four stations rushed to the scene.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service urged residents to shut windows and doors to prevent smoke inhalation as crews dampen down the area.

A spokesperson for the fire service said that the incident had been scaled down, however some crews remained in attendance while they dampen down hotspots and make the area safe.

The road was still closed as they continue to work.
