Who planted flowers in Hereford's potholes?

A mystery, green-fingered individual has taken a pothole problem into their own hands - filling them in with flowers along a residential street.

People on Moreland Avenue, Hereford, last week found that a dozen or so holes had been topped up with soil from which colourful petals sprang.

Since then, the potholes have been filled in properly with asphalt, leading some residents to wonder whether the as-yet unidentified pothole-planter had spurred Herefordshire Council into action.

But the authority has not confirmed whether or not it was responsible for fixing the surface and has not responded to a request for comment.

One resident in the area, Peter, said he had no idea who planted the flowers and added: "I can only say 'thank you' because it gave me a giggle."

He stated: "This road here has been [fixed] dozens of times.... and three weeks later the holes are back.

"I've rang up the council and they put me on to the people [who] do it and they say 'it's not a priority'.

"We pay our money... We're entitled to the same services as [everybody] else gets."

Another resident in the area, Andy, said: "To see somebody make a statement I suppose about the state of the road was quite amusing, a good way to, not protest, but to raise awareness, shall we say?"
